Rolling Back My Disney Experience App on iOS

How to roll back your iOS version of the My Disney Experience App
to 4.10.1 (which has change party function for fastpasses as
discussed in Episode 136 of Backside of Magic Podcast).

1. Obtain a copy of iTunes on your computer that is earlier than 12.5.
     a. https://www.lifewire.com/download-every-version-itunes-2000446
     b. You’ll need to remove whatever copy of iTunes is currently running on your
         device.
     c. Once you install the older version of iTunes, you’ll need to go to \Users\[current
userid]\Music\iTunes and copy the iTunes Library file to somewhere for later
use. Delete this file from the directory where you found it.
     d. Start iTunes.

2. Follow the directions laid out at this URL.
     a. https://medium.com/@iosight/how-to-legally-download-any-previous-version-of-an-app-store-app-through-itunes-9b45559b8357
     b. The software Version External Identifier for MDE version 4.10.1 is “826052048”
     c. Note that when apps are being downloaded by iTunes, it sometimes took a long
time for the download to start.

3. In directory \Users\[current user] \Music\iTunes\iTunes Media\Mobile Applications you
should see an entry for “Disney World 4.10.1.ipa”

4. Download and install iTools (likely 4.0).

5. Attach whatever iOS device you want to install the app onto to the computer. It should
show up in iTools.
     a. Delete any existing version of MDE from the iOS device.
     b. Use iTools to install Disney World 4.10.1.ipa to the device.

6. Once the app is in place, you can re-install the current version of iTunes on your
computer. You’ll also want to put back the iTunes Library file to where you found it to
restore your iTunes.

  1. It looks like the Medium article has been removed. Has anyone captured it for sharing, or can you otherwise share the steps to follow? Thanks!

    1. Maybe it's just me and my amateur technical abilities, but that link isn't working for me either. I found a different set of instructions here https://medium.com/@dixitakansha15/how-to-download-older-version-of-latest-ios-app-from-appstore-91c28d2407d9, but I don't know if it's essentially the same, or completely different. Following these instructions, I get stuck in the iTunes app store and I'm not able to download the MDE app. The download button is replaced by a notice that says the app is only available in the iOS app store. It could be that this is all totally beyond my technical ability, and I need to simply sigh and watch all you kids change party while I wait Stand-by like a chump. An old, worn out chump.

  3. Brian, did you do step 1 above? later versions of iTunes are what give the issue with not allowing downloads.

    1. You can't share your copy of the file. It is linked to your iTunes account. If you can't find iTools, just look for another program that allows you to push and pull apps off your iPhone.

  5. Is this still able to be done? I have a phone from 2015 that has MDE on it with change party on it. I try to use it and there is an error that comes up saying "We were unable to fully complete your request due to system challenges."

I don't know what version I have on this phone but wanted to check to see if this is still possible before trying the above steps to put it on my current phone.

Thank you! miss the podcast :(
